Finding your IMEI number is easy.

First, try to enter *#60# on your phone’s dial pad and the phone may provide you key information about itself, including the IMEI number. If that does not work, here are the next best ways to find it -

For Android devices:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Tap on "About Phone"

For iPhones:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Tap on "General"

  3. Tap on "About"

The IMEI number is a unique identifier which is important for various purposes, including checking compatibility and unlocking your phone.

Basics of an Unlocked Phone

  • Unlocked phones are not tied to a specific carrier, allowing use with multiple service providers. A locked phone typically indicates it’s not fully paid off or under contract.

    There are several ways to determine the locked status of your phone.

    • For an iPhone, you can find out by going to Settings > General > About. If "No SIM restrictions" appears next to Carrier Lock, your iPhone is unlocked.

    • For an Android phone, you can check your lock status through the Settings > Network & Internet > Tap "+". If your phone displays other networks, your Android is unlocked. On newer Android phones, you can also go to Settings > Connections > More Connection Settings > Network Unlock and you can then see the Network Lock Status, whether locked or unlocked.

    • For other phones, similar steps within the Settings section can typically locate this information.

    If you are not able to determine status with the steps above, contact your provider. If it’s locked, they can assist in unlocking it.

How to unlock a phone

You may need to contact your carrier and request a "network unlock" to unlock your phone. You can do this by calling them, visiting their website, or going to one of their stores. Some carriers will delay unlocking a phone for up to 48 hours after request, so you will want to make that phone call today.

When can I unlock my phone?

Typically, providers let you unlock your device within a year (fully paid-off phones), though some take longer. Contact your carrier to request a "network unlock" for your phone. You can do this by calling them, visiting their website, or going to a store.

Why do I want an Unlocked Phone?

An unlocked cell phone is likely paid off, isn't tied to a specific carrier's network and works with more than one service provider.
