  • If your phone is Unlocked and it is Compatible, then you are ready to switch to Stack Mobile.

  • Stack Mobile is compatible with most newer phones, including those supporting Apple iOS and Android.

  • Yes, you will need to have an unlocked phone or unlock your current phone to switch over to Stack Mobile.

  • Locked phones are locked into a specific network and are prevented from being used by different mobile networks for a certain period of time. They are usually locked because the phone was purchased through that carrier at a reduced price and with a customer lock-in to the network for 12 to 36 months of services. However, there are ways to unlock the phone - check other FAQs for those answers.

  • Unlocked phones can work with more than one service provider, as they are not tied to any specific carrier network. It's also likely paid off. You'll need a compatible, unlocked phone to BYOP to Stack Mobile.

  • There are several ways to determine this.

    For an iPhone, you can find out by going to Settings > General > About. If "No SIM restrictions" appears next to Carrier Lock, your iPhone is unlocked.

    For an Android phone, you can check your lock status through the Settings > Network & Internet > Tap "+". If your phone displays other networks, your Android is unlocked. On newer Android phones, you can also go to Settings > Connections > More Connection Settings > Network Unlock and you can then see the Network Lock Status, whether locked or unlocked.

    For other phones, similar steps within the Settings section can typically locate this information.

  • If a phone is locked, the steps to unlocking depends on your current carrier. In general, you can call your current carrier and ask for a “network unlock” to have your phone unlocked. Most often a phone call, a visit to their webpage or one of their retail stores is required to unlock your phone.

    Check additional details in FAQs if you are attempting to unlock with AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon.

  • The process to unlock a phone with AT&T is as follows:

    > Check Eligibility: ensure that your phone meets AT&T eligibility for unlocking, for example, your phone must be paid off and your account in good standing.

    > Contact AT&T at 800-331-0500 or use online chat, and provide your account information and IMEI number

Device Compatibility

  • Stack Mobile is LIVE!

  • After you purchase your plan, you will go through the activation process, at which time we will coordinate the transfer (port) of your current number over to this incredibly-rewarding mobile service.

  • No, we have no sign-up or transfer fees when joining the Stack Mobile community.

  • You should not cancel your old service until you have successfully transferred your old number over to Stack Mobile. For most transfers, this is automatically performed as part of the transfer (port) process when activating with Stack Mobile, though you should check with your old provider after the transfer is complete.

    Remember, the activation process usually takes just a few minutes, but can sometimes extend up to 48 hours due to porting processes from your old provider.

  • Most newer smartphones have a QR code scanner integrated into their phone’s camera app which works very well – these include iPhone 12 or later and Android 8 or later.  If your phone is older than these, you will want to use a QR code reader app which you can find in your device’s app store.

    Scanning a QR code outside of your phone

    Follow these steps to scan a QR code located on a separate screen or printout:

    1. Open your phone’s camera app and point your phone at the QR code in front of you. Make sure you have good lighting and that your phone’s camera lens is clean. 

    2. After waiting a few seconds and with steady hands, your phone should automatically detect and process the QR code.

    3. Your phone will now display a banner or URL link.

    4. Clicking on this banner/URL will take you to the steps to finish installing your eSIM.

    Scanning the QR code located on your phone

    Follow these steps to ‘scan’ the QR code if it is already saved on your phone you are using:

    1. Take a screenshot of the QR code or save the image to your phone.

    2. Open the screenshot of the QR code in your Photos.

    3. Press down and hold the screenshot of the QR code.

    4. After a second or so, the phone should recognize it and open the proper URL within your  phone’s primary internet browser app.

    5. From there, you can complete the steps to finish installing your new eSIM.

  • It only takes a few simple steps to change-out or install your new SIM.

    1. Power off your smartphone.

    2. Holding the front of the phone facing you, locate the SIM card tray on your smartphone – it will have a small hole in it which is used to pop the tray out for access.

    3. Pop out the tray out by inserting a SIM removal tool, paperclip, or pushpin (be careful, SIM card trays are delicate and can be easily broken!).

    4. Pull the SIM card tray out of the phone, taking note of how the SIM card tray fits into the phone slot by checking the direction of the hole.

    5. (Re)Place your SIM card into the tray with either the logo or the gold chip facing up – note that the SIM card tray has a notch on one of the corners and the card will only fit one way.

    6. Push the SIM card into the tray, making sure the tray is in the same position as when you removed it.

    7. Power phone back on and check that it is working properly.

  • For a new number, the service with Stack Mobile will start within minutes of activation. If you are moving your current number from another service provider, the service with Stack Mobile typically will start within a few minutes after activation, but can take up to 24 hours. You will receive an update at time of activation and another when the migration to Stack Mobile is completed.

  • Activation usually takes just a few minutes to finish after installing your new eSIM or physical SIM. However, though rare, it can sometimes extend for up to 24 hours due to porting processes from your old service provider.
